Bring on the rain

I'm taking a break from packing and laundry. For the first time in my life, laundry hasn't bothered me. I guess it's because I know that within a few short weeks, I won't even have a washer and dryer. Now, I'm not looking for sympathy - I'm just thankful for a lot of small things that I've always taken for granted. There is nothing like doing the will of God.

For most of this week, the sun has hid its face from us. It's rained and been overcast for 5 or 6 days now. I've been thinking a lot about a devotional that I read a few months ago that really encouraged me. Sometimes, we can feel as though the Son is hiding His face from us. Our world can become dark and gloomy, and we question whether God really knows what He is doing. But, just as the physical rain is necessary, spiritual rain is essential. And believe me, they both benefit us later on when we may experience a natural and spiritual drought. We can look upon those rainy times and remind ourselves that this will be good for us later on. I think about how dry and hot it gets in the summer; we could go months without rain! Yes, the rain is very good for us.

I am encouraged by Romans 8:38, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." God has everything under control, and He has plans for us. So, bring on the rain, Jesus. I'm thirsty anyway, just bring on the rain!
